I can be a hater, and as such, went into this video expecting to be subjected to five minutes of forgettable attention-whore behavior. I was totally wrong – this video is amazing:

Lady Gaga might be my creative soulmate. Case in point: she’s wearing remakes of my favorite shoes throughout this whole video.

“In female humans, all oocytes are arrested at diplotene before birth. Meiosis resumes at each menstrual period, which means that the chromosomes in the bivalent must remain properly associated for as long as five or more decades. If we speculate that these associations have an increasing probability of breaking down by accident as time passes, we can envision a mechanism contributing to increased maternal nondisjunction with age.”

-Introduction to Genetic Analysis, pg. 568

Translation: All female sex cells are created prior to birth, but remain paused in the first stage of the gametic cell cycle until their specific menstrual cycles…sometimes 50-60 years after being created. Woah.

“Even your nose is capable of distinguising between some enantiomers. For example, (-)-carvone is the fragrance associated with spearmint oil; (+)-carvone has the tangy odor of caraway seed. The receptor sites for the sense of smell must be chiral, therefore, just as the active sites in most enzymes are chiral.”

-Organic Chemistry, L.G. Wade, Jr.

Hmm.

Where was this when I needed it?

“The culture of normative value(s) is strictly congruent with the engendering of the public sphere.”

Very true….

Good find, Dr. Dre and Jeff.

…because I’m drawn to older music, but I was wrong. If I had been born any earlier, I could never find and love music the way I do now.

I <3 the internet!
